Tip Tuesday: How to Acheive Flawless Foundation Application

Us girls always wanted to have that flawless makeup look like the ones we see on magazines ads, red carpet events or any celebrity pictures we came across in our lifetime. Yes, their makeup application is flawless and so beautiful even I, find myself gawking at those pictures for hours. I believe that anyone and everyone can achieve the same flawless look if you have the right kind of tools and products for it. I’m not saying that I’m some makeup expert, because I’m not. But, I’ve experiment and try some things here and there that I think works really well in achieving a flawless foundation look.

Here are my top 5 tips and tricks to achieve the perfect foundation:

1. Start with a blank canvas

Before you start doing your makeup, always start with a clean face. Wash your face with a mild cleanser or any preferred cleanser of your choice. Apply your favorite moisturizer. Use a moisturizer that suits your skin type. If you have dry skin, use a thicker moisturizer and concentrate the product more on dryer areas. This allows for a smoother foundation application. For oily skin, use an oil-free moisturizer or a water based moisturizer and for normal skin, you basically could use any moisturizers you like but I recommend creams. You could also add a face primer for reducing pores and also to create a smooth base for your foundation.

2. Find your perfect color and foundation that fits your skin type.

Test foundation on your jaw line in the daylight. You will know that you have found the perfect shade when the product disappears on your skin without having to blend. Also, pay close attention to what type of skin you have. There are a lot of companies that makes foundation for different skin types. Be sure to read the label before you buy it.

3. Apply with a brush or a Beauty Blender (cosmetic sponge).

By using a brush or a Beauty Blender, it will help you achieve a flawless and more even application. When using a brush, use a light and circular motions while applying your foundation. This will let you use less product and build the coverage you need. With the Beauty Blender (using it damp), it will give you a more natural finish. Just stipple (bounce the sponge onto the skin) the foundation on your skin and by doing so it helps to blend and deposit the product evenly which makes your foundation look like skin.

4. Concealer.

Apply concealer after foundation. Use a concealer that is one or two shades lighter than your foundation for that highlighted effect. Apply concealer under the eyes in a V shape, the bridge of your nose, chin, between the brows and areas where the sun naturally hits. This helps your eyes to look brighter and more awake and your face will capture the light for that “lift” effect.

5. Setting your face with powder.

Apply loose powder or translucent powder on areas where you normally get oily like the T-zone. Lightly dust the powder on those areas and also on the areas where you applied concealer to avoid creasing. This will help you achieve a flawless, natural looking face without looking cakey. 🙂

I have had cake face, foundation line across my jaw, wearing foundation that was a couple shades lighter than my actual skin tone therefore my neck doesn’t match my face, patchy foundation and etc. I definitely did learn the hard way and yes, they were pretty embarrassing. Only with time, did I slowly learn how to achieve this, trying out different products, using different brushes and beauty sponges and experimenting with different techniques to get the perfect foundation look. Practice makes perfect guys and I believe that you could achieve the flawless foundation look too. Thanks for reading!XOXO
