Simple Tips For Beautiful, Healthy Skin During Winter

Hello Tuesday!

How’s your day going lovelies? Gosh, the weather this weekend has been awful! Non stop rain and gloomy and oh so depressing! I think I am ready to leave this gross weather and head some where sunny and beachy, with tropical weather. Yes, a tropical vacation is absolutely necessary at this point.

And since I am still in cold and wet Virginia, today’s post is all about how to keep your skin looking beautiful during this winter. Ever since the weather started to get cold a couple months back, my skin has been so, so dry. Not to mention, I already have dry skin to begin with and with the dry air it makes it even worst. Any foundation I wore would look cakey and blotchy. Any type of makeup I put on my face, the product will cling on to every dry skin and accentuate all the dry areas. Not good!! But there are certain things I do during the colder months to keep my skin as healthy as possible. Keep on reading to find out more on the things I do to keep my skin stay hydrated and healthy.

  1. Drink plenty of water

This one is easy for me. Growing up, I’ve always prefer drinking water than sugary beverages. So as an adult, it’s easy to follow the recommended water intake per day. I do indulge once in awhile, but I feel that drinking lots of water is the most important part to achieving healthy beautiful skin. It is even more important during the colder months because:

  • It helps to hydrate our skin from within and retain more moisture in our skin.
  • It supports our physical functions like walking, eating etc. hence you’ll have more energy through out the day.
  • It is a natural detox as it helps to clear impurities, therefore you’ll get healthy and brighter looking skin.

Lately, I’ve been adding a slice of lemon to my tall glass of cold water every morning and I noticed my skin looking clearer and I have less breakouts than normal.

2. Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize

This is a no brainer. Next to drinking lots of water, moisturizers also helps to keep our skin feeling soft and moisturize. Your winter moisturizer should not be the same as your summer time moisturizer. You need a thicker one, with more hydrating benefits for your skin. I love a good creamy and heavy moisturizer for the colder months, and instead of using just a regular body lotion, I love body butters for it’s thick consistency. On some days when my skin is looking dryer than normal, I also love wearing facial oils. My favorite moisturizer and facial oil to use during the winter is the Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream  and the Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil. The Body Shop has some amazing body butters that I love, and the mango scent has been one of my favorites for years!

      3. Exfoliate Your Skin

Another secret to healthy, beautiful skin is to exfoliate. Exfoliating is important during the winter time, because dead skin cells starts to accumulate causing your skin to be dry and flaky. Exfoliating also helps to remove excess dirt that your cleanser couldn’t get rid off. Be sure to replenish back the moisture with a hydrating moisturizer for an instantly soft and supple skin.

      4. Use a Humidifier

Another tip to beautiful skin during the colder months is to sleep with a humidifier. It helps to make the air in your bedroom feel less dry and the moisture will help to keep the skin hydrated. Not many know this, but this is a great beauty secret that everyone should be doing. You could get one for under $30 like this one here.

Although these are all great tips to follow to achieve great looking skin, there are some “don’ts” that you should not do as well, like:

  1. Over exfoliating – it would just make your skin irritated and have redness everywhere
  2. Overkill with washing your face – it could dry out your skin and stripped the skin of its natural oils
  3. Soak in hot water bath – hot water strips away your skin natural defense against dryness and irritants, and can cause skin conditions worst if you have any.
  4. Wear/overdo too much makeup – your skin needs to breathe because too much makeup can cause even more dryness and makes your skin age faster.

Those are my top tips for achieving healthy skin during winter. You may already be doing some of these tips I mentioned on here, but like I said some of these tips should be practice regularly, and include them in your daily routine not just in the winter, but all year round.

Let me know in the comment section if there are other tips you do to keep your skin healthy during these cold months. I love hearing your suggestions too!

Thanks for reading everyone!XOXO ❤
