Pregnancy Update: 2nd Trimester and what I’m Currently Using


Happy Saturday!

Hello everyone!! Finally the weekend is upon us! We’re supposed to have good weather here in Northern Virginia this weekend. Oh, the pool is finally open and I’m planning to spend a lot of time by the pool this summer actually… with my baby bump! Haha!

On my last post, I briefly mentioned that I will be out of town next week, and yup we’re going on a road trip to Nebraska for my sister in law’s wedding. I’m going to be doing her makeup which I am excited about. I love doing bridal makeup. I just feel like bridal makeup is so soft and sultry and pretty and not too overly smoky or thick which I LOVE!! Don’t get me wrong, I love a good cake face (lol), but there’s something about bridal makeup that accentuates the bride’s features more and give that gorgeous glow to the bride’s face which I think is really beautiful. I will show you some pictures when I get back definitely!

Anyway.. Yes! Pregnancy update!! The last time I did an update was when I made the announcement that I was pregnant, which was towards the end of my 1st trimester. If you didn’t read it, I mentioned that I had a pretty smooth first trimester, nothing extreme like throwing up every single day or anything like that. I had bouts of nausea and also had chicken aversion. Towards the end of the 1st trimester though, all I crave for was super crispy fried chicken. I think that was my body’s way of telling me that I need more protein in my diet because all I ate was crackers and ramen! Haha!

Now that I am in my second trimester (currently 22 and will be 23 weeks tomorrow), I feel really good. I don’t think I gained that much weight, even though I feel like I am eating a lot more and constantly snacking every hour. Even when I am eating junk food, I know to balance my diet. I eat a lot of protein especially red meat and chicken, and a lot of vegetables too. My current vegetable obsession is steamed broccoli and tomatoes and I eat that every single day with every meal. I do realize that I love sweet things as well, like chocolates, cupcakes, donuts and so on. Some say that eating sweet food could be a sign of the gender of the baby. Heh!

The last doctor visit I had (at 20 weeks) the doctor told me that I gained 2 pounds from the last visit at 16 weeks. I was kinda shocked because I just got back from Singapore, and I was eating a lot while I was there. I thought I gained 10 pounds to be honest. Haha! During that 20 weeks appointment, I also had an ultrasound where the sonogramer will check and make sure that everything is looking good with the baby, and also we get to find out the sex of the baby!!! We’re having a baby girl!! We kinda expected it was a girl from the beginning. And everyone was telling us that we will be having a girl. Even my grandma when I was in Singapore, she said she had a feeling that it might be a girl as well. I had some friends who told me that it might be a boy by the way I was carrying my bump. It was small and pointy, and according to old wives tale that means it’s a boy. Girls are more wide and spread out. My mother in law even checked her Chinese baby calender and told us that the calender said it is a girl. Haha! We had so much fun actually guessing the gender of the baby, and we could not be happier to have a daughter.


Now that my belly has gotten bigger and is obvious than before, I’ve been really taking care of my skin just so I could prevent myself from getting stretch marks. From the start of my pregnancy, I started to use belly butter every single day to keep the skin hydrated and I’ve been drinking tons of extra water too! One of my favorite belly butter to use is the Burt’s Bee Mama Bee Belly Butter. It’s really affordable and you could get them at the drugstore. I’ve also been using the Clarins Stretch Mark Maximizer recently too just to switch things up a bit. It is on the pricey side, but I heard so many good things about this cream. I’m glad I got it as a gift though. Hehe!

Oils are good for pregnant bellies too, because it penetrates deeper into the skin and keeps your skin hydrated from the inside out. Some of my favorite oils from the drugstore are Bio Oil and Burt’s Bee Mama Bee Nourishing Body Oil. It is really affordable and works well too. If you’re looking for something on the higher end, I’m also currently using the Clarins Tonic Body Treatment. It has like a herbal lemongrass scent which I kinda like and I love how luxurious the oil feels on your skin. Another good one I read about is the Mama Mio The Tummy Oil Rub. The most important thing is to drink loads and loads of water. If your skin is hydrated well, I think you could prevent your belly from getting stretch marks. Prevention is key.
